Developmental Stages

A baby enters the world entirely dependent on its parents, and yet immediately begins learning from everything and everyone around it. Even as a child grows, explores, and meets new people, parents are still a child's most important influence in pre-school development. Beyond love and consistent care, the best advantage a parent can give is daily interaction.

Sing, talk and read to your baby everyday. Learn more about Helping Your Baby Grow in our Parent's Guide

Children develop at different rates. However, we can count on one thing; all children develop new skills by building from skills already achieved. From ages zero to six, a child's growth is rapid and generally occurs in stages.

Learn more on our Checklist for Growing Children in our Parent's Guide.

Being aware of the signs of common developmental health problems will both save parents from worrying over small (or imaginary) problems, and help parents to address serious ones as soon as possible.
