Tips for Agency Community
Involvment

Established agencies have the benefit of trained volunteers, paid employees, and funding from outside sources. A well-organized agency can really harness the energy and maximize the effectiveness of all sorts of individuals and businesses who want to give to their community. Agencies can also be a powerful and far-reaching force for encouraging new volunteerism.

Make It Easy For Others To Contribute

  • Publicize yourself as a place that welcomes volunteers and helps them to make a real impact.
  • Identify a wide range of volunteer positions within your organization that vary in time commitment—create opportunities and allow flexibility for people who want to help out.
  • Provide easy access for groups and/or friends to come and volunteer together in easily organized activities.
  • Be specific with your needs, making it easier for corporations and individuals to donate time and money. For example, do you need space, volunteers or money? How much? How many? When? For what duration?

Partner With Others In The Community

  • During the holidays, work with a business to sponsor a gift-purchasing program for needy children’s wish lists. Together, fundraise, purchase and deliver the gifts.
  • Partner with a local church to help support activities for new families (perhaps already established by the church). Examples: care for new babies, safety education, a safe toys and equipment drive.
  • Apartment complex owners can provide space for agencies to do outreach and discover potential new clients.
