1. Parenting Education And Support For All Families
Make access to quality parenting education easy and participation the norm. Develop a universally accessible system of parenting education based on
proven curriculums and delivered by trained and professionally supported
lay educators in a variety of accessible settings, county-wide.
Strengthen and build the capacity of existing model parent education
programs that serve higher risk families. Find out more about Parenting Now!™
2. Risk Screening And Home Visits For All Births
Intervene early with skilled visitors to link families to essential services and support. Develop a consistent, comprehensive, and coordinated "best practices"
process for identifying children at risk of maltreatment and implement
this screening via professionals, paraprofessionals and non-professionals
in all locations that reach children and parents throughout the county.
Coordinate with and build on efforts resulting from the Oregon
Children's plan.
3. Respite Care, Accessible Therapeutic Preschools And Crisis Nurseries
Build capacity locally on these best-practice interventions for at-risk
families. Respite care and crisis nurseries to provide a safe
environment for children to get a break from parents while also
providing parents with a break from the stresses and demands of
parenting. Therapeutic preschools to include developmentally
appropriate curriculums, drug & alcohol treatment and counseling for
parents, and transportation for children to get to the center.
4. Public Awareness
and Involvement Campaign
The Cherish Every Child public awareness campaign is a key effort within the Success By 6® Initiative, which is being convened by United Way of Lane County.
Phase one of this three year campaign is all about providing the community with information and generating discussion on the importance of parenting and early childhood wellness. We want to place emphasis on the impact of the first few years by informing people on the critical nature of early brain development and provide clear understanding of what children and parents need to succeed. Phase one also encourages the community to take personal responsibility to improve the health and safety of all our children. Each message was created to inform and engage people with very simple ideas on what they can do to make a difference in a child or a parent's life.
We will be airing these on TV, radio, and in newsprint all across Lane County. Phase one of the public awareness campaign is also supported by this website, posters, and distribution of a short Parent's Guide, called Children Do Come with Directions.
We would not be able to air these messages without the vision, commitment and support by PeaceHealth and Chambers Family Foundation, our primary sponsors. In addition, The Northwest Health Foundation, The Harris Fund for Children of the Oregon Community Foundation, and John and Robin Jaqua, each has very generously supported this campaign.
